Ask your insurance. different insurance companies have different timeframe on when they need insurance inspections. The usual is between 12-15 years old will require one.

i don't believe you need one for registration, but your insurance company will ask for one if the car is 15 years or older i think and you need insurance to register, so i guess indirectly you do need it.

So is like a pre-purchase inspection good enough? or does it need a special safety one?

Your insurance will send you a sheet that they want your mechanic to fill out. Its a standard insurance inspection.

You need a insurance inspection. Your insurance will give you a form that needs to be filled out and signed/stamped by a licensed mechanic. PM 88jbody, he does them on his spare time. He did my S13 for me.

insurance inspections?? companies still do that. thats so 1990s. reminds me of that idiot leon north in the NE state farm, everytime u make a change you have to come in and take pictures of your car.

when i told them that my insurance company I can do insure my car ONLINE they went crazy.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

different insurance companies have different policies, end of story.

03ozwhip: I would send them in. The insurance company can deny you coverage in the event of an accident because you haven't given them the safety report.
