CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
-----------------------------------------------------------------
A mother duck anxiously awaited the return of her six
ducklings which had fallen into a storm drain at
approximately 12:30 today. The local fire pumper truck went
to the location of Beddington Trail and Hidden Valley Gate
N.W to aid in the removal of the ducklings. Calgary's Water
Services was also dispatched to assist. The two departments
collaboratively made efforts to remove the grate that had the
ducklings imprisoned. The grates removal proved quite
difficult as it is historically pounded down by heavy
traffic. The Calgary Fire Department closed down the right
hand lane of Beddington Trail southbound while the crews
worked on the grate.
The mother waited on the other side of the road
supervising the progress of the incident. After the prison
bars were breached, a firefighter crawled down into the cell
and carefully removed the ducklings. They were placed into a
large pail where they were then transported to their awaiting
getaway. Once reunited with their mother, they waddled off
into the sunset.
