Someone close to me was sustained some fairly serious injuries today when an unsecured bar-b-q collapsed on her while she was grocery shopping.

What store was it at? Some stores will settle at the first phone call from a lawyer, while others like Westfair almost always go to trial. Make sure you hire a decent trial lawyer if she was injured at Westfair because chances are great thats where you'll end up.

You might want to check the disclaimer's at the entrance to any major supermarket...most will clear themselves of any liability once you step into the store.

Last year my wife slipped at the superstore on a puddle in the middle of an aisle. Although we didn't ask for much (only exact cost of 2 days lost work + exact cost of medical bills), it took them 3 months to settle privately with me.
