I went and panned for gold with my Grandma (she was a Geologist) but that was back when I was 10.

Hedley BC... I grew up in that country (Keremeos BC). Yes you do have to be careful as most land is already claimed and you are not allowed to remove gold (or anything for that matter). I know my friends dad used to pan all the time and would regularly pull up colour, but that was years ago. Sometimes people would ask him if they could try panning on his claim to try it and he didn't care. he always just asked for a split of the gold. Most people wouldn't find shit though as they didn't have the knack for it unless they did it al the time...

My family has a large claim near Likely BC. Peaked at about an ounce per hour, before uncommited investors decided to yank and run with their profits. I'm not sure how many tons per hour of material was being processed to make the once. Now it's a fairly small plant but still makes money even running part time. It all started with panning, meeting friends with similar interests, and went from there. Panning is fun the same way fishing is and when you find gold your heart gets going pretty good

Somehow I think you're going to end up spending more in gas to get to your sites than you end up panning

Oh wow cool! Doesn't sound like your run of the mill hobby, that's for sure. Take photos of your expedition and share it afterwards, even if you don't find much!
