Default Saskatoon Host World Juniors in 2010

Not bad, first time since 1991.

The way the tournament is run (biggest cheque usually gets it, and understandably so) I'm genuinely surprised we were able to land it again. With the 2010 olympics going on and no NHL cities in the running, we managed to snag it.

Regardless of how we got it, I think it'll be a good thing. When we do get major events like this we always manage to put on quite the show/set the bar for the next one.

For those who don't speak Saskatchewanese, I'll translate:

"When we do get major events like this" = Last major event: NHL exhibition game 07/08 season. Previous major event before: Germany invades! WWII Begins!
"Manage to put on quite the show" = People showed up.
"Set the bar for the next one" = Previously there was no bar set, but now one is set for the next one.
"" = I am typing this one a computer, I am therefore literate and happy to be considered Saskatchewan high society.

I think they had the Grammys some years back. Don't forget how their Football team won a trophy last year.

    Prick!

But seriously, we've set attendance records for national tournaments (like the Brier) in the past. Edmonton is still the only city to EVER do better (not that curling is anything to be proud of haha):

"The Brier attendance record is 281,985, set in Edmonton in 2005, eclipsing the 248,793 mark established in Saskatoon in 2000. Those numbers are followed by Calgary (245,296 in 2002) and Edmonton (242,887 in 1999)."

Point is, we always get high marks when hosting big events. With a city this size, it's a lot easier for the whole city to get behind promoting it. Everything from hotels and restaurants to bars, pubs, "clubs" (such as they are) all get into it with promotions and stuff.

Just giving you a hard time dude! You can't be the only asshole in these here parts

Haha but come on... you seriously didn't just try to justify Saskatchewan by making just one comparison... using curling!!!!

That's like saying "Look the Newfies are the most skilled Canadians around... just look at how much better they are at fishing than anyone else!" (just kidding, newfies!)

(I used to live in Saskatoon... and then Maple Creek for a couple of years.)

Oh I know haha! And unfortunately yes. Yes I did. Curling is the only one I could think of..... For the record, newfie's don't know how to fish they know how to net fish.
