    Talking 163.35WHP and 77.15Ft/lbs

My bike hit the dyno today.

    2008 GSX-R1000

Base run was: 158.80WHP and 73.78Ft/lbs

    Tuned was : 163.35WHP and 77.15Ft/lbs

Thanks to the guys at Walt Healy!

The bike now idles a lot smoother then with just the exhaust and a zero map on the Power Commander. The exhaust is the Jardine GP-1 Slip on. Stock Air filter, I was told by a few guys not to change it to a K&N or a BMC because they let tons of shit through into the motor and you only gain 1-2HP from them.

I'll throw up a copy of the dyno sheet tonight. I can't wait to get off work and try it out.

Are you fat or tall or something? I'm thinking a stock 1000 has enough power for most, unless your racing and need the extra power to beat someone...

That's pretty much what you're paying for. James goes into the mapping and adjusts delivery until your AF is perfect. Typically from what I've seen, throwing a can on it without a tune makes it run pretty rich. Stick your finger in the exhaust (when it's cold).. if it comes out black it's rich.. if it's white, its running lean.

If it's a brand new hayabusa... you will turn some sickening numbers.

It really helps with the driveability of the bike, the bikes can have some strange surging and odd issues when you put on the slip-ons with no tune.

BTW BlkMaxima, I have a new front tire in the garage I'll give you when you want, It's an OEM one from a GSXR1000 I got from a friend of mine, but I don't have any use for it as I have slicks on the track bike. I was looking at your tire and it's pretty beat...
I'll give you the tire for free, you'll just have to pay for install. lemme know!

Ah I have heard many people that dont dyno tune after a exhaust add as usually there is very little power added... But I'm sure each bike is different as probably allt he hp/tq he made was from the commander and retune at this altitude.

..that's true.. in fact, it usually does nothing except get louder. Often see really expensive exhaust systems going on to bikes without a proper tune and although it sounds nice, it's still stopping short of it's potential.

Well even for being a 1000 he made only 3.16% more hp/tq for 400 bucks, which is also 80.00 per HP/TQ and thats not including the cost of the commander and the muffler, BUT I'm sure there is a noticable and enjoyable throttle response difference.

Sorry but I'm bringing my basterdized car knowledge to the bike forums now..

I was similar minded when I first started riding... "big deal.. what's 5 horse" well, on a 370 pound bike, it's quite a bit. With the commander, tuneability on a bike is phenomenal. If he wanted to get really unnecessary, and put nitrous on his bike, it would be a matter of re-mapping for that (usually piling more fuel in during activation RPM's and so on). From what my dyno guy tells me, your fuel mileage is a little* bit better based purely on the renewed efficiency found in having a custom tune.

My 1000 is a 2006 with a pipe and a commander, lately the best pull I've taken from it was 162hp and 79.9 ft/lbs on a hot day. On MR9 race gas, I'm told it will unlock another 8% or so. A lot of the slightly bigger numbers are coming out of bikes that were broken in on a dyno in their first few kilometers. (not trying to sell anything here, I assure you)

Bike tech isn't much different on principle than cars.. it's just smaller numbers and a bit more rpm
