i suggest you take the course.

    but its up to you.

i rode my bike for a couple months before even my course and after the course my skill level shot way up.

but the lot test is garbage.

cash grab, take the road test all you have to do is ride around

what im trying to say is that its a good idea to take the course - you learn a lot -

but i must say the road tase is easy as shit all you need to do is ride.

my course was 425 at calgary safety council

For all you guys who did the road test, did you borrow someone's bike? Or did you have your own? Or did the testing place lend you one?

    TIA

    for the road test

    i used my own bike.

it has to be registered under your own name and have proper insurance.

now some instructors have a bike for you to use but there is usually a fee.

the guy that was doin the lot test at the course i took charged 75 for the road test plus 65 if you wanted to use his bike...

its funny cause whoever he failed he would offer the road test right away....

Just out of curiosity, which insurance company insured you on a bike without a class 6?

I did the Too Cool Motorcycle School bike course, and it was worth every penny.... they give you lots of different scenarios and stuff to make you a lot more aware when you are riding...

the instructors are very good too...

I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with you there. I took the lot test last night with Too Cool, and it was stupid. Unrealistic situations that you would never need on a road (i.e. serpentine, circle.)

I can understand that they are nice skills to have, but you'll never need them unless you're having fun in a parking lot.

Starting Jan 2009, the lot test won't exist anymore. So if you are planning on taking the lot test instead of on road.... do it this year.

my road testing instructor said something about the lot test being revised because everyone thinks its too hard.

but supposedly you can take a scooter on the lot test and if you pass you get a class 6 license...

well i went with the road and half way through the tester told me over the radio "ok i can see that you know how to ride... make right lets go back" and that was it I went 2 blocks. Im taking the course in the fall as it was the only time that was good for me.

I wrote the written exam without studying..it was cake. Plan on taking the road test this week. I'm pretty sure I will pass any lot test as well as a road test. I have a street legal dirtbike 214lbs, I dirt bike all the time, my brother did not believe me as far as dirt skills transfering to the street. He gave me his own lot test and said he was surprised on how well I did.

The street is sooo much easier than dirt it's not even funny. The hardest thing for me about the street is turning off my signal light...

the lot test is just about basic bike control...it's easy, I passed it first try with no deductions...sure the chances of going around in a slow circle in the real world are fairly slim...but it's not about going around in a circle, it's about having control of the bike through a turn, which is kinda important in the real world...shifting up and down in short spaces while turning, umm, ever ridden in rush hour?
