Is there anything that should be done if you were just looking to pay cash to fix the damages on a car? ie. Signing a waiver or something to acknlowedge that they've received money from you, etc?

You'll want to fill out something called a Final Release form. You should be able to get one from your broker.

Agreed - you simply pay the shop for the work unless you work out some other arrangement that works for both of you.Originally posted by gretz

if you pay them and sign a release waiver, who cares what the do with the money, as long as it doesnt fuck you around in the end.
I paid cash for an accident my wife got into. As mentioned I downloaded a release waiver form, had the other party sign it and I paid him the amount on the estimate. ~$2000.
He was planning to order an aftermarket bumper, etc. His business.
Also paid for one for my brother-in-law. Man, I'm getting screwed here. haha.
Link to the form.
