    Default Changing battery on E46?

    Hey fellas,

I'm going to be changing out the battery in my 330 after work today. I just want to know from someone that has done it, if there is anything weird about changing the battery in a BMW or if it will be the same as changing it in a Honda? (aside from it being in the trunk)
Anything I should know about it?? Strategies?

Mostly just curious because a local shop wanted $80 to do it...not including the $290.00 battery, so I'm thinking there may be more work involved than I know of.

    Thanks,

    $80 to swap a battery?

It better be defended by a fearsome dragon for that price

lol its just annoying pulling apart the trunk "tray" assembly but its pretty easy to do.
like eleanor said, just check bimmerforums, or e46fanatics for a walkthrough.

Don't the radios in e46s also have a security/radio code that you need to enter to activate it if the power is ever cut off? That's the way it is for e36s, so I'm just assuming it's the same for e46.

Yep. Only after installing my new battery did I realize that the radio code was no where to be found in my car.

I think Walmart still does free battery installs when you purchase a battery from them

Just got off the phone with Calgary BMW and they said it will be in the 'Radio' booklet in the owners manual. When I go for lunch I'll check to make sure I have it. If I don't have it they said I can come down with my registration and drivers licence and they will release it to me.

So, other than that...pretty straight forward?

Would you guys disconnect the power connector from under the hood, then disconnect the battery just incase of a short of any kind...?

or just unhook the battery from the get go and leave the power connector hooked up under the hood?
