The article itself doesn't have much meat to it, but the idea isn't all that ridiculous. Eventually science will invent a techno-add on that will be beneficial enough that people won't be able to resist. And then an exponential take off from there.

Chris Carter made an episode of The X-Files similar to this. If you think about it, we're basically a neural network of electric impulses and if we can transfer those impulses from our brain to another artificial medium like a circuit board, we could essentially live on the internet.

This was my biggest problem. I'd be more interested in reading/checking the calcuations made and how he made them as opposed to just stating "Hey I think this will happen in the future." I couldn't help but think while reading the article, of a video game called Deus Ex lol.

We could also never reach that point.....intelligence seems to escalate with mass extinctions. There have been 4 (maybe 6?) mass extinctions over the history of the Earth. One allowed multicellular organisms, then they mostly died off. Then came the Trilobytes, then they all died off. Then came the dinosaurs, they all died off. Then came humans. The cycle will continue to repeat itself, forever producing more intelligent life forms. Humans aren't the end of the Earth, but they may be the end of humanity.

^ I wouldn't wholly agree with that. There will be a limiting factor in which life will become intelligent enough to artificially sustain itself past a mass extinction and I could definitely see this incarnation doing that.

I didn't see dinosaurs inventing computers. We have a lot of evolutionary tools that never existed before in the natural world. All that 'i think therefore I am' nonsense blah blah
