Illegal to sell smokes?

I have a friend that was arrested for selling smokes. Apparently after he sold some to someone in a restaurant, 6 RCMP cars were waiting for him outside and said they were from some Drug Unit. I think there is more he is not telling me, but assuming he is not lying is it illegal to sell smokes?

6 RCMP cars sounds more like a case of mistaken identity, and that there was another drug deal at the same place and time.

HAHA.. yes it's illegal.. Well it sort of depends on the conditions of that sale... But most of these sales are cheap smuggled smokes from the states, sold cheap here. I used to know a guy bringing in truck loads back in NS, big money in it.

Then how come its ok to have the occasion fs:marbrough smokes every now and then? Because its not large quantity?

So if you paid for customs its ok to sell them?

Thats what i thought too, like i said i think thers more he isnt telling me. I am not sure he sells drugs or anything but i wont be surprised if he has a trunk full of smokes.

If he was bringing smokes back for a buddy, I can't see 6 RCMP cars showing up for that.

Iam not sure how much he sold but apparently he as like 30 cartons or so

when u can legally bring back a carton or two depending on time down in the states, it would take a few trips to come up with that number, so therefore, illegal. Unless of course he ordered them and paid the bend me over duty on them. which i doubt

How old was the person he was selling smokes to? Because it is illegal to sell to minors and that sounds like a sting.

I think he was selling mainly to his friends 18+. He finds it strange taht there would be 6 RCMP cruisers waiting for him.

Also, don't you need a license to sell cigarettes? Much like liquor?

Calgary's crime is not as bad as you people think, and depending on the time of day, the CPS response is stellar....I once saw about 20 cops, seriously, during lunch time in Chinatown to attend to scene where one senior got ran over....now, granted the police station is about 5 blocks away but still.....it must've been just a slow time if this is all true.

I believe it, cops put on big stings for these types of things. There was a province wide one last yr in NS I believe, where they took out a lot of the main guys importing them, and the trucks hauling them...
