    Default hi level converter

so to my understanding if you put a sub into a car with a stock deck you will need a high level converter to convert stereo lines to rca's?
Is it necessary to buy a very high end converter ($100+) such as the Re-q futureshop has http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0086255&catid=
or will the cheapest 20 dollar one do?
    Thanks

some amps have "speaker level inputs" so you can just plug your rear speaker wires into that

otherwise, your deck will have RCAs which go into the "line level inputs" on the amp

    depends on the equipment really

Yeah, check the amp first. You might not need it. If you do, spend the money on a good one: $100-$200 is still pretty cheap. If it's the weak point in your system, trust me, you'll notice. It'll pop the speakers when you turn the system on if it's just a cheapie, and it'll distort too. I've removed dozens of the cheap ones.

    Huh?

All I'm saying is the cheap ones often turn your amps on before the stereo turns on, and pops the speakers. It's more annoying than anything, but it will damage your speakers over time.

Also, the crappy converters will result in poor sound quality.

Are you replacing the ENTIRE sound system, or just adding subs?

no i'm just putting a 12" sub into the trunk i think i'll just try the cheap one first and see how that goes.
i'm planning on installing it all with a friend so we might not be able to install and set up the more expensive converter properly

    http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...6255&catid=
is there any difference in install. Does the more expensive one have to be "tuned" or set properly?
