Yeah, I was cruising behind it on Crowchild a couple weeks back, I didn't have my camera.

    The car looked amazing.

You can technically get a ticket for each window that's illegally tinted. So as above, if you're being an ass to the officer (or if he's just an ass to begin with), he can give you two. (or three tickets if you're dumb enough to tint the windshield of your BMW... but if you own a BMW you can't be stupid right?)

I love the Esprits... I was tempted to pick one up from down south. Such wicked cars.

    Very cool cars!!

The taillights are made by a manufacturer that then sells them to whatever car companies need them, and europen companies, especially ones that dont make a ton of cars, can avoid the costs of tooling their own molds if they use stuff like that, I believe that the VW Scirocco also used that same taillight on a few years. The most interesting case of parts use like that is the Mclaren F1, it used the tallights from a truck manufacturer, a million dollar car with semi-truck taillights!

    Wow, Esprits still run?

It's a cool car and all, but I would never buy one, not worth the headaches. They're not known for reliability hehe.

I was stuck in traffic behind an older one the other day, probably S1 or S2 model can't tell the difference, the thing looked like it was about to die. I got a headache after 2 blocks of eating oil smoke.

S4 and up ( S4S is the Limited production sporty version ) are actually quite reliable .. but they are not cheap to maintain ..

    Well .. only 10,000 Espirts were built .. in ~ 30 yrs .. vs ~ 20,000 F360 .. they are so rare ..

    Most S1 S2, SE, S4 and V8 around .. but S4S, Sport 300, 180R are even more rare ....

But at the end of the day .. GM engine/tranny + Toyota/GM electronic .. if you can find their parts # under GM/Toyota .. then not bad at all!

Not sure where the GM engine/ tranny comments comes from but the 918 engine was developed by Lotus and the transaxle was the same Renault UN1.

The last Esprit's, the V8 twin turbos were actually quite reliable. Problem is the previous models reliability tainted the newer cars. Most of these cars don't get driven frequently so they suffer issues like fuel pumps and leaking transaxle seals. All in all a great car, and unlike the large number of Ferrari's in town a true rare sight.

Lotus raced the V8 in GT1 against the mighty McLaren F1, with limited success and budget. They did manage to out qualify and lead some races.

Forgot to add this picture of the Chrome Orange Esprit

The owner is a bit odd...
