Hey mate, if it's an EF, I'm going to say that it's the actual swtich itself. I had this problem on my old 86 lude and it's basically the contact points in the steering column. They are not touching properly and it's just from time and wear and tear.

The entire assembly should come out as one piece and it includes both the wiper and indicator/light arm. The arms don't really come off unless you have the entire thing off the column.

It's a bit of a pain to take out if you don't have the tools, but in the end I had to replace the entire assembly and it was just over a hundred bucks...but that was like a million years ago and it was on a 3rd gen lude.

From what you've described, that sounds very similar to the problem I had and I reckon it was cheaper just replacing the entire thing.

    Hope that helps mate.

    Thanks guys.
The fuse is good. im willing to bet it has something to do with the deck as this cars wiring is a nightmare.... PURE gongshow. the owner that put in the deck must have been handicapped.
ill maybe check the wiring to the fuse or whatnot and see whats going on.

the fuse would have to be blown if there was a short behind the deck... or else you would smell burning and possible have a small fire to which you could roast some marsh mellows..

even though the fuse doesn't look like its blown it could very well be, not every fuse blows completely, sometimes its just a small disconnect

either way, put in a new fuse to make sure

A problem I've seen many times is that when someone installs an aftermarket deck they connect the deck's ground to the car's dash illumination wire. However this usually blows the fuse causing the dash and tail lights to go out. You said that the fuse didn't blow, but its just something to keep in mind.

    Cheers,
    Berg
