Not sure how well this link will work, but spent 8 hours on Saturday getting this done. Session 1 complete.

Anyone you can get in with that quickly should throw a red flag... Not saying it isn't impossible to luck into a premium artist who just happened to have a spot open up just as you are around, but 99 times out of 100 you can be sure a really good artist is booked up a minimum of 3 months in advance (I have tattoo artist friends who only book 3 month blocks and then close their books until they are ready to open another 3 months block) as well as booked up to multiple years in advance (I have many friends like that as well)...Originally posted by Akumaz

Unless you are good friends with an artist or just happen to luck into a spot, you should be expecting to book long in advance...
In Calgary here, there are quite a few excellent artists who are doing authentic Asian tattoo work, but there are many who do the picture but do not understand the symbolism behind the piece and you end up with stuff that might impress your friends, but will make a good tattoo artist experienced in tradition groan!
What about Jay Slinger? I Saw some tattoos from him, I booked him for my first.
I reached out to Honor Bound Tattoos, so we'll see if I can get a session running. My itch for more ink needs to be scratched.
Man I'm itching for a new piece.....

I have a consultation booked with James Jacbos in September. He did my first back when he was at Bushido. I know he's good so that's not what I am worried about. I myself have very little to no idea as to what I want to get. I have a general idea in mind as to what I'd like my tattoo to represent but not sure about the actual design so let's see how it goes and if James is able to get my idea drawn up into art.
James is awesome! His skills are top notch for sure. I would trust his drawing skills. Remember though, how a tattoo artist draws a piece isn't ONLY about the subject matter being presented in a way you like, but they also have to draw to fit on a 3 dimensional canvas, and the way muscles work and the movement of the body, so they have to often do it different than they would if it was to go on a 2 dimensional canvas to hang on your wall...Originally posted by shakalaka

James is great. I've got 5 pieces done by him and he always seems to figure out what I want and work with what canvas I give him.
Psalm 144(1): Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.
I am glad to hear it. The first time I pretty much told him exactly what I wanted so it wasn't quite as difficult. This time it'll be tougher for sure but hopefully he can come up with something. I know he's good so I have my fingers crossed.
are there any real good portrait tattoo artists?
Don't recommend me your guy that did your tribal armband. I am sure it is dope bro, but I need someone with a lot more skill.
I have finally figured out my next tattoo, and now I need to get a GOOD and REPUTABLE artist with lots of examples. I can't have this one being fucked up.
Boosted life tip #329
Girlfriends cost money
Turbos cost money
Both make whining noises
Make the smart choice.
