Default Anything you guys would of done differently when you guys were 18

I am currently 18 and make around 2500 a month I was thinking instead of blowing it on girls booze and cars I should invest into my future but have no clue how. What should I do. Any regret you guys have when you guys were 18 (meaning anything you would of done differantly.) Might seem like a dumb post but I have no road but to turn to BEYOND lol.

I would have stayed in school. Don't get me wrong, when you are 18, $2500 a month is good money. But when you are 30 and have a family, I wouldn't even get out of bed for $2500. Our household budget is $7000 and we do not live the high life. I got LUCKY to get the career I have without university but I often regret not getting a degree. I would have had so many more choices.

I wish I could blow some money on girls, booze, and cars. Family can be a pita sometimes.

I personally don't think there is anything major I would change. You need to have some fun and do the odd stupid thing. Just don't go into debt and you will be okay and hopefully without regrets. And at least always save something.

But to cut out all the 'fun' spending will just make you depressed in 10-15 years when you have a family and you can't (or at least really shouldn't) do some of those crazy things. I sometimes thing 'man I wasted money on some stupid things when I was young/single' but I also think 'man I had some fun when I was young/single'.

Just stay out of trouble (ie debt) and you will fine.

If you're going to blow it, be smart and blow half. Save the rest.

You don't have to spend all your money to have fun.

I was making $11/hr when i left high school ('98 min wage was $5.50/hr) First thing I did was talk to the bank and put away 75% of my paycheck into conservative mutual funds. Lived the broke life like a typical 19 yr old...but had enough to pay thru college with no loans.

I wasn't very financially smart at 18 nor did I think about my future much. LOL... $2500 is good money at 18, but like PP say, it's nothing when you have a family and other bills to pay for. Anyway, you could put $500 towards an RRSPs savings account per month, $1000 savings towards something (car, trips, etc.) and the rest you can spend it on entertainment (booze & girls). Well, something along those lines... it's just an idea.

You are in the time of your life when drinking and whoring are pretty much expected, so have some fun. Don't get any strange girls pregnant.

However, now is also a good time to start some smart financial habits.
    - Put something into your RRSP. At 18, you don't have the experience to pick "the best" investment, so just make sure it's something that is low fee, and at most, medium risk. Since you are about fifty years from retirement, that money will have a long time to grow.
    - Don't get into debt for "fun" stuff. pay off your credit card every month, save for larger purchases ahead of time.

Now get out there, get laid, and post pics of the chicks you bang.

Save for a house or condo, then when your 20yrs old with a place that you OWN(with a mortgage), the broads will come a flocking.

You make money from equity and you'll be able to travel and have nice cars by the age of 23-25.

Mind you, I did the opposite...and it still worked out.

All these guys telling you to go drinking and partying...obviously don't realize you can still do that at the age of 21-25. I'm a hypocrite though, cause I drank my face off when I was 18-20...still do actually.

    I think I'm an alcoholic

You are young, so have fun with your cash but do it responsibly. If I was your age, I'd set up an RRSP and contribute something reasonable to it monthly. You could also look into securing some property as early as possible if you don't plan on going to school. You could probably get a small apartment on $2500/month and build equity for the next 10 years until you're ready to sell and buy something better.

This is a small issue, but get a credit card, use it for all your expenses but pay it off everything month. By the time you're 25 you'll have great credit and large limits meaning that getting credit on anything else, mortages etc will be a brease. As for everything else, travel, meet girls, buy fast cars, party.. just pay off your credit card hahaha.
