Default Help me build a gaming PC!

Hey guys, I haven't build a computer for years. I have an AMD Athlon 1800 right now.

I'm looking for a new computer that can play newer games, and also future games like SC2.

I would like a quad core processor, with 512MB of video ram, and 300GB HD.

    budget is around $600-$800.

    Don't need a power supply, don't need a DVD player/writer.

    help a brotha out!

    thx

Do you need an operating system? If you're going the vista route, you'll need more ram but that's not a whole lot more.

check out nvida Geforce 8800 GT or GTS. They're still pretty decent cards and they're cheap as hell now (seeing how your budget is around 600 which is sort of low for a gaming computer). I think you can get them for under 100. GTS is better than GT, but I'm using an 8800GT superclocked and the graphics are pretty amazing still.

The 8800GT has been discontinued, so unless you're gonna buy a second-hand card, the 9800GT is the only other option that costs $150 at Memory Express. The 8800GTS 320MB performs worse, as it's a "first-gen" Geforce 8 card. The revised 512MB version costs $270, in which case you might as well get a Radeon HD4850 for $190. That card outperforms a 9800GTX+.

You can still get 8800GT's from Futureshop for $100 on sale, if you really want one.

X Zero is pretty much bang on, though. 4850 = best bang for buck right now.

4 gig's is overkill.... I can run WoW, WC3, COD4, and BF2 all at the same time with no lag... yes, I do have a Q6600, but I only have 2 gigs of ram. I dont know why people think they need 4 gigs. Unless you're running vista. But then you're a moron.

Also get a Sound blaster card. do matter what you get, but gamer is probably the best bang for your buck.

That package, but swap the RAM to this.

(copy and paste the whole link, won't link properly)
Good ram timings for the price, plus its a 4GB pack.

its for future considerations. and its only $45 extra. Why Not? brings his total to $800 which is within his limit anyways.
