block heater

Hey there
gotta install a block heater but can't seem to find where it goes. It's a ZC and it looks like it is supposed to go in beside headers... but that doesn't seem right.. isn't it supposed to go in higher.. like around the oil filter area?? ne1 know for sure cause i can't see it that well... lol blind as a bat!

i looked into this last year when i got my zc put in and i was told it didnt have a block heater... so your shit out of luck

There should be a "frost plug" on the engine block - looks like a hole with a metal disk pushed into it. All engines have them - the frost plug is supposed to pop open when the coolant starts to freeze - "hopefully" preventing a cracked block. Traditional block heaters replace the frost plug - fitting into that hole in the engine block. You can also get an inline block heater that is installed in the heater hose. You must remember to the leave the the car heater in the "ON POSITION" when you are using that type of "block heater"..

I never had to use a block heater when living in Northern Canada. With the advent of full synthetic "winter weight oils" (0W-50) and fuel injected, computer controlled engines, block heaters became redundant - except in POLAR weather conditions.

Make sure you are running 50 / 50 water and antifreeze when operating your car in Canada. Antifreeze is cheaper than an new engine block.

a lot of old jdm engines dont have provisions for a block heater. if your car normally starts up easily, u have oem engine management, and u do all the usual winterizing stuff...it shouldnt be a big deal.
