Construction has wrapped up on the Glenmore Causeway project.
As of Thursday morning, all lanes were open on Glenmore Trail from Macleod Trail to Crowchild Trail and the speed limit was back to 80 km/h.
An estimated 140,000 commuters use the route daily. It is also an east-west trucking route.
Construction on Glenmore Trail between Crowchild Trail and 14 Street S.W. began in 2005. At a cost of $170 million, the city increased the number of lanes, as well as built two interchanges, two pedestrian bridges and a wider bridge over the Glenmore Reservoir.
According to the city, Calgary's largest infrastructure project was completed on time and on budget.
Construction is still underway to widen Glenmore Trail from four to six lanes between Deerfoot Trail and 18 Street S.E., as well as to twin the Graves Bridge over the Bow River.
Was driving home on it at about 12:15am and to my shock and amazement all signs are finally back up to 80km/h. Even though it was completed on time it's still been a long time coming.
