you can usually adjust the roller that holds the belt on both ends of the treadmill. It could be that the belt is uneven or loose.
also
Underneath the belt there is a smooth board that should have a waxy type substance on it to reduce the friction between the belt and the board.
Most fitness equipment stores should know what you're talking about.
