    Default Oil Change Question

    For 08 Civic Si

Just going to take it to Mr. Lube. Now does it really matter what oil I use? The basic Castrol 5W30 for $50 or pay $80 and get the Mobil 1 synthetic?

Mobil 1 ftw or what? lol

The car doesn't get driven a lot, took almost 10 months to reach the first change.

    Thanks.

^^ Despite popular belief, dealerships usually charge less than places like Mr. Lube etc for an oil change. It's for the convenience of not having to leave your car at a dealership for over half a day that places like Mr. Lube charge the extra money for. Where stealerships get your money from though, is when they "recommend" that other parts on the car need to be replaced and overcharge you on both the labour and the parts.

I'm not too sure but what's your civic Si's oil change schedule like?
Just curious because I think 10 months seems a bit excessive unless that's what the manufacture suggests. My mazda has to get oil changes every 8,000K or 4 months.

But yeah, to get back to you, you should stick to Mobil 1.

I thought you needed to follow the dealer's scheduled maintenance guide, and oil change every 5000km's to keep your warranty intact.

    I use Mobil1 as well.

    Don't new hondas take 5W20?

I'd just use whatever the manual suggests for winter. I'd never use synthetic on an engine that doesn't call for it, but that's a long debate.

If it's a lease that your not planing on keeping then regular non-synthetic FTW.

If it's yours then synthetic all the way.

not sure about his 08 SI, but my 04 LX manual says 16,000KM under normal driving conditions, 8,000KM if you're driving short distances (under 5km per trip) or driving it hard.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

Mobil 1 comes as factory fill in a lot of performance cars (lots of AMGs, RDX, etc.).

I think Mobil 1 is worth the premium. It's the only oil I use in spite of the debate that it's not a true synthetic.

Go buy oil at walmart then take the car to the dealership to get the change done. Probably most cost effective way of doing it other then doing it yourself.

And by going to the dealership the chance of a hack working on your car is somewhat reduced.

the si takes 5W30. i wouldn't put synthetic in if you're following the maintenance minder.

at the buying walmart oil and taking to dealership

hacks can be employeed anywhere, I know a couple of speed lube (not real name, as far as I know) places the owner does it himself and might employ his brother or nephew and the customer just chills there chatting with him.

Doesn't Honda doesn't give out free oil changes for new cars for the first year or something?

Why is this so crazy? I do it, it runs me about ~50 with either Castrol Synthetic or Mobil 1.
