Police Hand Out Thousands Of School/Playground Zone Tickets In Crackdown

Calgary police issued a whopping 9,000 tickets last month in a crackdown in city school and playground zones.
Constable Mike O'Connor says the traffic enforcement program ran from September 2nd to 30th, because motorists either forget about, or ignore the signs to slow down when classes resume in the fall.
Speeding and failing to yield to pedestrians accounted for a majority of the tickets issued - more than twice as many as the 4,246 tickets written last year during the same time.
However, O'Connor notes that this year, police had two radar units dedicated to the crackdown, which resulted in the higher number of summonses.
