So i'm wondering, what company is everyone using to host there websites??

This question is mainly for people using company's like Godaddy, inmotion, etc and not for people who are hosting their website themselves.

    Thanks in advance

I use a local company here in Calgary cause they have really good customer service and well their services are great. You have somebody to yell at in person if something happens to your site lol instead of waiting endlessly on the phone.

iweb.ca out of Montreal has treated me well for many years, or check http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ for deals and opinions.

    crucialwebhosting.com, hostgator.com.

Both are very reliable and have served some of my friends quite well.

www.hostgo.com, been with them for 3 years and have ZERO complaints. Although soon I'm going to set up my own server to save money.

media temple are great, been using them for 4+ years, we moved away from crucial web hosting because their support was limited and we did not like the modernbill backend

    www.bluefur.com

    Formerly known as Monster Hosting.

I have a site hosted there on one of the smaller packages and know others that have servers hosted there as well. Customer service has always been quick anytime I needed to call them. They are a Canadian company, operating out of Vancouver.

    I'm using Dreamhost.

They're cheap and I haven't had any complaints.

I've used dreamhost before, they are slow and oversold, maybe they have changed. I've had quite a few hosts, current I'm using www.webhostingpad.com/411.html
what they offer is crazy but its still good speed, I get over 800KB/s download from them easily. My buddy used to work for them, they own their datacenters so no middle men really.

For pictures I like Gallery, most hosts with control panels can "auto-install" this for you and from there it's pretty easy, but may be overkill for your needs. Can always disable modules you don't use like shopping cart, print ordering, etc.

lets assume I got a PC that I haven't used in awhile. It's got a good amount of ram and tons of HD space.

What would I need for this bad boy to be a good fast running server. Who in Calgary provides good internet services for hosting servers?

    Thanks

Not many choices in Calgary, and all ridiculously expensive since we're not a major PoP...
