Martial Law isn't that bad. My mother grew up with it and she turned out all right.

Martial law actually calmed people down. My parents went through this as well (Philippines circa 1970s-80s) and they said it revitalized control again. But the Philippines was going through social turmoil and had to deal with reckless behavior, not so much a financial crisis.

    Maybe?

    EDIT

Crime rates plunged dramatically after dusk curfews were implemented. The country would enjoy economic prosperity throughout the 1970s in the midst of growing dissent to his strong-willed rule towards the end of martial law. Political opponents were given the opportunity or forced to go into exile. As a result, thousands migrated to other countries, like the U.S. and Canada. Public dissent on the streets was not tolerated and leaders of such protests were promptly arrested, detained, tortured, or never heard from again.

... Ignore the other parts and it's actually effective.

Think about it in the United States though, they have advanced weapons in their homes. They can't control crime as it is, can you imagine what would happen with the panic of martial law?

How is Martial law going to help? That's not gonna get people out debt.
As the video said, America's gotta stop spending and actually start saving. Probably cut down their military as well and get out of Iraq asap. For better or worse, US is gonna change alot.

You're right. I think if it's goes into place, it'll completely backfire. It worked in the Philippines because everyone didn't have the firepower to fight back. The people did overthrow the president through democratic means but people had to suffer and die to get that victory.

    Kind of bittersweet.

If you want to get out a financial hellhole, you should actually introduce more government projects.

Right? That's how Roosevelt got America out of the Depression.

Wrong. World War II got America out of the depression.

War is good for business. The concept of martial law in the US really scares me with the amount of armed citizens. Imagine NYC or LA Katrina style.

Martial law is just a plain bad idea. In the constitution it gave the citizins the right to bare arms if there ever was a need to over throw the gov't and create a new governing body. Now if the people just get sick of all of the lies and bullshit the media and gov't feed the population, how could there ever be a revolution with the millitary pillaging through the streets with absolute power? All they want is complete control over the population. To me that is just a crock of shit!!! What ever happened to freedom???

Because you're a mod, I'll let that slide.

Martial law should only be exercised when the head of state is having trouble controlling its' people. It's not a free pass to get out of financial debt.

When NYC or LA goes Katrina style as someone stated before me, THAT is when it is appropriate to do so

But most of the army is overseas anyways so I don't think martial law will be exercised anytime soon. Not enough troops at homeland.

At least, that's what I think. Not really sure of the US Army figures.

That only depends on the number of businessess you're talking about. Back during the Depression, war was good for business because it created jobs within their own economy, meaning everyone at least got to work. Now, we have a lot of companies outsourcing to other countries with cheaper labour, meaning only a select number businesses in a selected industry prosper.
