    Default Laptop Suggestions

Hey guys, just a question. If you guys had a budget of 800 dollars for a laptop and it had to be smaller than 13inches, what options are there out there?

It must also contain a CD drive and a built in Webcam.

Ive already checked best buy and FS and not a lot of great options... MemEx doesnt have any in that price range either I believe.

Hoping to get some quick suggestions as I am going to buy one tonight if possible in Calgary.

You might wanna take a look at Laptop Depot. I wouldn't bother with their website - just go to the store in person.

I've gotten all my laptops from Computer Trends.

Out of the three, only one problem (oddly enough, it was the newest one. But it's a Gateway.)

Cheap and great selection! Plus, friendly staff!

The benefit of masks is not known at this time. But we do know it is some non-trivial amount more than zero.

We also know that the cost of mask use is, essentially, zero.

So the cost:benefit of mask use is approaching infinity. I'll take that every time. And every time I see someone without a mask, I think they are stupid.

I would recommend that you keep your distance from Laptop Depot. There's a thread if you search.

Little help? I typed 'laptop depot' and only three threads came up, including this one.

    The other two were meaningless.

But yeah, I haven't gotten good service from Laptop Depot and their equipment is very outdated (even for refurb standards.)

Maybe they've changed, dunno. I remember a guy at Computer Trends said that CT was founded by a person who used to work at Laptop Depot and just used their connections to get the same, if not, better deals.

i would try buying a laptop from the retailer itself online (for example www.dell.com)

that's probably the best bang for your budget

You can get a refurb macbook for around that price. If you arent comfortable with mac os x, you can still install windows on it. This will serve you a lot better than anything from a used laptop store.

I've had my HP from Laptop Depot for the last 2 years with zero problems so I can't complain.
