*help* 1999 Vw Golf Problem!
I got a 1999 VW golf and my cousin hopped in it the other day when it was idleing and jammed it into reverse without the clutch in and it yanked back and stalled. After that it wouldnt start again, it wouldnt like turn over or anything. I got it towed to canadian tire and they said it was the starter. Is it possible to blow a starter from stalling? i thought he messed something up in the tranny or like the clutch forks.

is it a 1999 or a 1999.5 and it is possable to ruin a clutch like that and if the clutch doesnt work you cant start it

Check the safety switch on the transmission. Sounds like it's connector separated/ pulled out when the engine bounced on the mounts.
To clarify- it DOES NOT crank, right?

And how to tell a difference between the 99 and 99.5 is you check what styling it is....if its the newer one then its a 99.5 if its the old style with the boxy bumpers then its a 99

Tune dub or concept 1 is your best bet.. also check www.eurodrivers.ca they might be able to point you in the right direction..

Cambodian Tire will tell you it's the starter. Then after you pay that bill, it'll probably be your Transmogrifier that needs replacing.

The op needs to give some answers here. If they called a starter then they probably already checked that there is power going to the starter and that there is power coming from the relay. It is not hard to diagnosis a starter....
It is possible that the solenoid was fucked to begin with and that it was bound to happen...
