Do I really have to be a student? Will they really check?
What a life.
Anyone know if they have something similar for osx? I don't really want to pay $180+ or download it.
Yeah, they want your student ID and they email to your student email.
I got the office stuff. Good deal. I haven't quite checked the vista stuff cuz I alraedy have vista with my comp

Yes. When you register, it must be through an approved post-secondary email address.Originally posted by el-nino

Well if they had included my good pal ME that would have worked. Looks like I might pony up for an OEM version from memx. Those are both wicked deals though.
Will this Office 97 work on a Mac Pro?
Only if you have Windows installed on your Mac. I don't know of any Office deals for OSX.Originally posted by rmk

I got the 2008 Office Suite for Mac through the student promo and I don't have Windows installed. It's 2008 though so 2007 may be different.

Did you somehow get it through the link above? Same price?
For those who aren't students you can get academic versions (office 07) on ebay for about $100.
I didn't get it from the link you posted, I got it from MRC. In fact, it was actually $92.95 + GST.Originally posted by Wraith

The big difference is that the one you bought is the stripped-down Student version (retail <$150), while the Ultimate Steal promo gets you the full-blown Ultimate package (retail $680) for less money.Originally posted by Isaiah

Basically, MS wouldn't sell nearly as many copies of Office Mac as they will Office Windows, so it doesn't make sense to offer a massive discount to a small market.
Gotcha, thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware that it was a stripped down version but I haven't really found anything missing so far. Do you know what they've omitted from the student version?
I use office extensively, especially powerpoint and excel, and I haven't noticed any missing aps other than some statistical functions. I can't get macros to work either but I think that's just the Mac version and not specific to the student edition.
I was just wondering, does anyone know why this version is usually $600+ retail? Like what makes it that much more than the stripped down student version?
It just has every single product..

The Home/Student version is targeted towards most normal users that just need the basics like Word and Excel, while Ultimate is targeted towards the power user/business that needs everything available. It's not that the Student version is bad, it's great if you don't need anything else - but the Ultimate version for $65 is a much better deal. Unless you're on a Mac, in which case you unfortunately don't have much in the way of deals.Originally posted by Isaiah
