Default Wanted: Beginner Bike (No Rush)

As of now until next spring I am looking for a beginner bike (prefer a 600cc). I am always looking at www.buysell.com to find that perfect deal.

Since I'm not very familiar with bikes in general I'd appreciate if you guys could help me out. I'd like to spend $3000-$4000 but I can probably even hit the $5000 range if needed. Oh and by the way I really like the looks of the 98' CBR so something that sort of has that 'style' would be awesome.

So I guess until I find a bike I'd greatly appreciate your advice or bikes you guys found that would interest me.

    Thanks alot.

By the way I'll be trying to bump this thread until I can find a bike.

Oh and I'm in Saskatoon but would willingly drive to Calgary if that's where the bike is.

thing is newer 600cc's are NOT beginner bikes.

it seems that you have no experience with bikes before, so what you want may not be what you really want. my advice is before you start start deciding what to get, take the safety course and get licensed.

Also, for $3-4 itll be near impossible to get a '98 honda f3, that range usually gets you a early f2

some guy had his '98 F3 going for $3,000 locally and from the looks and sound, it was running fine.

you're better off waiting thru the winter cuz a bunch of ppl who are trying to sell their bikes now are trying to get above market value for their bikes.

ie. just saw a guy trying to sell his '02 600 F4i for 9 grand and going on about how they're new 12,000+. considering they're 8,999 out the door w/ zero km's vs his 9k. (not that mileage really means anything on newer sportbikes)

I've ridden a dirt bike for 4 years, I mean that's got to count for something.

it does and it doesnt. Main advantage is that the controls are second nature so those won't distract you.

the street is a completely different animal. take the course first and get the license. whats the point of owning a street bike that you cant ride?

the '98 sounds fishy. i have a friend that bought a mid 90's ninja, looked like it was in good shape and sounded good. but it had crazy tranny probs, something only a test ride would reveal.

acutally, its the end of the season where the bikes go for cheap. its in the beginning where they are more expensive.
