I think the fines have increased dramatically, but, predictably, the smokers I know are now littering theirs butts on purpose in defiance of the new increased fines.

Yes please. I started picking up people's cigarette butts, then telling them "Oops, you dropped something" and hand it back to them or put it in the 'butt-stop' thing. Is it that hard to keep it with you until you find a proper disposal? I put my recyclables in my bag until I get home

I hate the blatant littering and cigarette throwing also, another one I saw today was people emptying their entire ashtrays from their car in a parking lot, so you have a few dozen cigarette butts and ashes, looks really nice.
