Theres a number of good companies around town that are putting out some good work.
Some of the biggers ones that come to mind:
Critical Mass, Rare Method, Karo, Suitcase
As far as education goes, probably the best direction is to take Visual Communications at ACAD. SAIT also offers a multimedia program called New Media Production and Design (this is what I took), but teaches more from the technical aspect (software) than design fundamentals.
As for myself I run a company called Medium Rare Studios and work at Critical Mass as a designer full time.
There's also the Electronic Publishing program at Mount Royal you can look in to.
Best of luck
eur0 how do you like working there?

Sig nuked by mod.
I just graduated from that program this in the spring, while I wasn't really pleased with my degree at the time, I just landed a sweeeet job as a web designer at Citytv after only looking for a month or so. So its a good option if you're looking to get into design, it gives you a lot of print design skills too incase you don't want to limit yourself to web.Originally posted by VWbloke

However while having a degree is definitely valuable, your portfolio and experience is often just as valuable. The most important thing is to have a solid portfolio.
I really like the job and have a lot of satisfaction for what I do. The pay is reasonable for the industry..

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to be a designer or an art director go to ACAD. If you just want to work in the industry and do whatever then the SAIT and MRC programs are a fine place to start.
I personally won't hire designers that haven't come out of an accredited art school unless they have an exceptional portfolio. But I'll hire production artists if I know they're fast and reliable, a good portfolio is a bonus, but it's not as important.
