Thats actually pretty cool. I would have thought that the act of pouring that much water / cement into the hole would have destroyed most of the colony structure. Spiffy.

Those leafcutter ants would have been gassed anyways. Notice how the colony is in the middle of a farmer's field (which is probably where rainforest used to be, but I digress). I also somehow doubt one ant colony will affect the hundreds of millions of ants in the nearby area.

Like the other guy said.. they didn't do it to the first colony, since it was a natural one in the forest. The second one looked like it was in a farmer's field so they had probably been killed by pesticides already. And you must admit, it made for a very cool bit of TV.

This is wicked I always have seen those ant colonies that you can buy in those window shaped framed boxes and see the tunnels but to actually see it in 3D form, amazing.
