Agree with Rotten, somewhat. I would find a way to demonstrate what you say above to potential employers outside of O&G. If you can, and are genuine, then you have a chance.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
There is some truth to that I suppose. My end goal isn't money though, I am mostly after a good place to work with opportunity to advance. I also need to develop a skill set I can use outside of O&G.
anyone here works at Equinox Engineering Ltd. or knows someone who does? I got some 3D piping model done by them back in 2009, and all 3D things became grouped proxy objects. Just wanted to know what software they use to create these dwg, to see if i can find a way to work with it. Thanks in advance if you can help.

What are you using? it's probably AutoPlant, just google enablers and follow the instruction on how to install them.
This thread is great haha.
I use solidworks primarily. Will be graduating from SAIT as a mech eng tech in April

Downloading inventor today, get to play with that.
I really wish sait taught us how to use autocad, every job I've applied for asks for it. Oh well, I'll learn it eventually.

Yeah I'm aware, will be downloading that after inventor is done. Don't have time to learn it with all my projects right now. I'll likely just take night classes when I start working.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
If you are a student you can get a 3 year licence of AutoCAD for free

I used Inventor at my previous job, kinda just learned as I went along. Was suppose to go to a course but it seemed like they had a tough time filling the spots for it.
Nope, they completely redid the program 2 years ago. I just had 4 months of solidworks, it was actually a very good class. The SAIT solidworks class was much much better than UBC.Originally posted by J.M.

You're not missing much from the autocad courses at sait. When I took them, I wanted to shoot myself every single day i had the class. And I actually enjoyed drafting back then.
If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

Thank you JC. I use autocad with cadworx, both 2014. The model I'm dealing with is indeed AutoPlant models. I tried downloading a few plug-ins, no luck so far, at this point I can only view the model by V8i Viewer. But I'll keep on diggin around. Thank you so much for your help.

Do you have a subscriptions to autodesk? Get A previous version (2012) for autocad and the enablers will work and you can work with the model. That's what I did when I had to work with that stuff. Depends what CADWorx 2014 works with I guess. i have 2012-2015 for both just in case I have to work in old models or autoplant.Originally posted by winson2001

And now the long battle to get autocad 12 on my station to work with cadworx 2014, or to get cadworx 14 on my co-league's station and find a way to switch/share her stationOriginally posted by JfuckinC

Getting '12 is easy, go on the subscription center of autodesk, sign in with your ID, download it and request a License. They will email it to you in a day or two! Just kinda gotta follow the instructions.
CADWorx 2014 will work on AutoCAD 2012 as well...
Do you have network licenses or a dongles? If it's network, easy peasy just download CADWorx on her machine. If you have a dongle, same deal, download on her machine and plug the sucker in.
I'll email you an invoice tonight hahaha
