    Solid bump on this thread....

Just quit my job of 12.5 years at a large architectural firm (120+ people in just Calgary, over 300 in Canada) to join up with a buddy and his partner at a 8 person operation.

    Talk about change of pace

We use 24"-27" for our workstations, but never curved, I'm not sure it would really be beneficial. Plus, what's it going to be like, looking at those screens all day, is it better or worse for your eyes?

If anyone is looking for a little side project, I need some help creating a CAD file that would translate to a 4x8 foot sheet of plywood getting milled by a cnc. PM if interested!

I am looking for people who know how to use Tekla Structures or Tekla PowerFab (FabSuite) and have experience related to either fabrication estimating or steel detailing. I just hired someone in Calgary and if I can find enough people, I would definitely open an office. Candidates can work from home, everything is quite flexible, we provide computer, supplies, software, etc.

We have offices in Winnipeg, Atlanta, Delhi & Bangalore and are continuing to grow. If anyone is interested and have questions, feel free to PM me for more information.

Gonna resurrect this thread to see if there are still CAD guys on Beyond. Where is everyone working these days? I got laid off from a position I had been in for a long time doing machine design and haven't been able to find anything else quite like it. Curious if anyone knows anywhere that's looking. Would also be interested in talking to people that do contract or freelance work, as that has always appealed to me but until now I hadn't wanted to leave my fulltime work to pursue that.

My team is looking for guys who would be interested in getting into doing concrete and rebar detailing using Tekla Structures. Our concrete/rebar department is growing quickly and we're looking for anyone with experience or the right person who's eager to learn a new skill/software. It's mostly cast in place and tilt-up concrete.

You can check out our website for some more information www.jmtconsultants.com.

I'm a CAD guy from Oil & Gas, but have been laid of since the end of July. I haven't seen much out there, at least for me, so I'm thinking that a career change is in order, again. UGH!!

I have a CAD question regarding coordinate systems and georefrencing.

I use Civil3D. Everyone else at my company run general AutoCAD 2023 or LT. With Civil3D I deal with assigning coordinate systems using "adsetcrdysys" or "MapCSassign" etc and add the appropriate coordinate system, NAD83_3TM114 usually.

Is there an equivalent command to workflow for AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT? Is there an autodesk plugin they need to download/purchase? Everything I find online is for Civil3D.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I know nothing about civil3D… but autolisp is probably the solution for AutoCAD… that’s the “programming” to build automation… if you search that and whatever it is you’re doing you’ll probably find something to build off of online

If all you want to do is attach a coordinate system you can use _geographiclocation and either set it from a map or a file. If setting from a map it wants a location to drop a marker, you can then add the CANA83-3TM114 coordinate system. Once you get out of that dialog box you have to set the point for the location and specify the north direction angle.
It works, but it's way more cumbersome than adding it in Civil.

Yea, I'm not a big autolisp guy myself. But for the coordinates systems it should have access to a database of different coordinate systems for transformations etc. Since they are both Autodesk programs I would think that there would be some sort of interoperability within it.
I usually have to make Autodesk and ArcGIS get along with one another which is ... problematic.

AH! Yes... this I think will work for them. Testing now.
