Anyone doing anything for Steel Day?

nothing. I know a few guys checking out Herrick corporation in Stockton, CA.
how much do veteran draftsmans hate text on paper space vs model space? I'm a newbie n school taught us to put text on paper space, n my manager said thats the way it should be, but then then exp. draftsman behind me wouldnt stop bitch'n n talking to herself about it.....

How hard is it to type 'chspace' thereafter if the drafter doesn't like it? It's nice to have things in ms with proper annotations set up, but sometimes I would rather people just put text in ps if they don't know what they're doing when using annotations.
As for what's right or wrong, it's as much of a question as toilet paper out or toilet paper in.

I HATE text in model space on anything other than P&ID's/PFD's.. Anything that has scale should have the text in PS..

Like I said in my post, if one knows how to use annotations properly in modelspace, it works just as well if not better for scaling. MOST people however, don't have a clue on how to use them properly and it becomes easier overall for people to just put text in paperspace.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
That is the way it should be; doing text in model space should never be done* and the so called "exp draftsman" behind you is not the expert she pretends to be.
The main reason for this is so you can scale in paperspace and still retain the same text size/height.
If you need to change your scale for any reason and your text is in modelspace, all your text sizes need to be changed as well. Keep in mind, most engineering firms or clients have drafting standards with provisions for 2.5mm and 4.0mm text heights in paperspace.
*There are exceptions:
-If you are using a program that generates "cuts" from 3D with text included for a specific scale
-To be used as non-printable notes to other drafters who may be working on it later on
-For isometric views (can be done in paperspace as well)

Not always... When I'm designing in Civil3D, yes. But most other texts, I just set the mtext to an annotative font and add the proper annotation scales as needed for paperspace scales. It's very useful when I'm doing both plan/profiles and overall plan views for a project under one file, especially if each viewport is rotated differently than the next.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
I am assuming your annotations are being generated automatically?

I hate text and symbols on model space. IMO, anything that does not need to be scaled should stay in paperspace - symbols, text, leaders, tables, schematics, titleblocks etc.Originally posted by winson2001

Anyone ever run into this problem?
AutoCAD printing wipeouts as a Black Box? - Google it and there are basically no solutions (minus re-installing, or installing different drivers) that seem to work.
Well I just found out a solution - if the LAYER you are using for the WIPEOUT has any screening number under 100 (which you can check in the .ctb) - it will print out black.
SO - either use a different layer for your wipeouts, or change the screening on your wipeout layer to 100.
This has worked on every drawing i've come across so far.
Cheers!
