i think thats called a jewel spider or something. I've been doing alot of reading after i started finding these in my house
Its called a gigantic house spider aka. agressive house spider, a cousin of the hobo spider

looks kind like a cat spider but I dunno..

I've been poking around the 'net about spiders 'cuz I have a couple of species living in my basement. 1 looks like Hobo Spiders (dangerous) and the other looks kinda like a Western Widow (also dangerous). It turns out that my little arachnoid friends are neither and are more likely a common house spider and a steatoda of some sort (both of which are harmless).

The only poisonous spider we have in Calgary that is worth worrying about (and I've asked entymologists about this, I'll send you the e-mail if you like) is the Western Widow which is a relative of the Black Widow. IIRC, there are no recorded bites from these things in Alberta ever which means that even if someone did get bit, it wasn't severe enough to warrant a trip to the doctors office.

The Hobo spider is working it's way across North America from Seatle and it has a pretty ugly bite but those aren't here yet.

(Gigantic house spiders are also harmless but they sure scare the hell out of you if you think they're hobo spiders)

Thats at my sisters house in Valley ridge...I dont know what to do, I think its prego...and I assume it will look for a way in when it gets cold....the other thing I forgot to mention is that she has two distinct brown dots on her abdomin (sp?)...

I wanna keep it! Do you think I could keep it alive in an old 10 gallon fish tank? I dont want to kill it (bad karma)...

Get a can of hair spray and a lighter and burn it, oh but make sure you dont burn the house down... Or if your really dont know what to do call a bug exterminator.
