    Bump!

Has anyone gotten one of these?

Are they better than the other HD PVR Shaw offers?

Anyone find out the max HD size yet?

I just picked up a new HD TV and was thinking of getting one of these when they drop $100 in February!

the Aspen lags less than the motorola, i own a 3416 and an aspen, and channel changing along with video chopping happens less on the aspen than on my 3416.

But just like the motorola, the aspen has some of its own annoying issues.

hard drive loss is quite frequent (because of over heating) and some stupid fail safe switch with the aspen where it will shut off your hdd which requires you to unplug your aspen and plug it back in to get it working again.

audio/video sync sometimes goes out, its usually happens during hockey games for some reason with me.

also i haven't tried an external hdd so i have no idea if it works or not.

Okay just to let people know,

I highly doubt shaw will be selling these boxes in Calgary (just from my experience).

The Pace Tahoe PVR they have, is not used in Calgary. In fact they wont even let you use it, they will want you to swap it with the shitty motorola one.

The reason being that they are Motorola's bitch and they want to sell their motorola products first. I think the Pace box is much better cuz it allows you to expand your hardrive.

Also, the software is not written by shaw; it's written by motorola. It sucks.

I used to have a Shaw HD pvr, returned it cuz it kept having to be reset and I had like 3 service calls for it.

First and foremost the Aspen is being sold as the new PVR for Shaw (Only available to the Calgary and Edmonton market).
The Motorola 3416 is no longer available for sale. The tahoe is currently being used in other areas such as Lethbridge etc...

the tahoe is used in areas that do not have all digital markets.

the Aspen and the 3416 are all digital boxes. while the tahoe is analog and digital and is only sold in non-digital areas.

plus why would you want a tahoe? they may look nice buy they are far worse than there motorola 6416 equivalent. black screens, overheating and hard drive failing issues.

    Thanks for the input guys!

I'm not sure how much I would use the PVR but for the extra $150 I thought it might be worth it, but it the firmware has bugs I might just use a regular HD box.

How are the regular HD boxes?

Do they have the same bugs?

Once you go PVR you'll never go back. Bugs or not.

I've had the Pace for 7 months with no issues. Mind you, the first box I got was DOA. Free, painless swap and the new one has been perfect.

Like someone mentioned above, once you go PVR you'll never go back. I have the entire last season of Entourage ...
