    Default San Francisco

Heading out to San Francisco in the next couple of weeks. Just wondering if anybody has any recommendations for restaurants in the area. We are renting a car, so transportation to different areas of the city should not be too difficult.

Also wondering if anybody has any recommendations for unique or interesting shops, or things to see. My wife and I have been to San Francisco a couple of times in the past, so we've already seen all the really touristy things.

    Thanks in advance.

There is an incredible amount of homeless people in San Francisco! They are everywhere, I can only imagine it being worse than when I was last there. There is a resto called The Stinking Roe that is apparently amazing. I walked by it while I was there but didn't realize it was a gem until I got home.

Edit: San Diego. Crap. Thought it was San Fran. I suck.

For some unique shops, there is Union Street (not Square), my sis and I did a lot of damage there. LOL... They also opened up a new Science Centre it's located right in the Golden Gate Park close to the Japanese Garden. We also did the Alcatraz and Mr. Toad's Bus Tour. As for restaurants, we went to B44 and Poulf which are right in the heart of DT SF. It's one of those little alley way restaurants (I don't remember which alley though). The interesting dish that we had at B44 was the squid cooked in it's own ink. It doesn't look very appetizing, but it was actually really good. B44 is also Zagat rated.

If you have time, I would suggest a drive down to Vacaville for some Outlet shopping and maybe hit a couple of wineries while you're down that way.

It's true, lots of homeless people and pigeons haha.

Anyways, if you're a sushi whore like myself, check out Sushi Ran, it's in Sausalito, right outside San Francisco, 1st exit off the golden gate bridge. It's ranked in the top 10 best sushi restaurants in the world on several lists. I went there twice, and I can barely eat sushi in town again realizing how bad it is here lol.

Try the omakase there and the chef will custom make a wicked selection of amazing sushi for ya. Make sure you ask about the chef's omakase roll, he told us it was award winning. I googled it up when I got back:

    http://www.marinij.com/marinnews/ci_10787262

He won that international sushi competition with that particular roll. So fucking good haha.

Another good place to eat is the cheesecake factory. Plus you have a great view from the balcony of union square, where I took a few wicked pics.

Dunno too much about shopping, but I spent way too much money around union square and the surrounding areas. Stumbled upon a Hugo Boss store with tons of McLaren gear, and proceeded to drain my bank account lol.

Alcatraz is overrated IMO. I've been there twice now, and you can learn everything watching the Discovery channel shows about it (they even show one of 'em there). Only a few of the pics I took there turned out the way I liked. If you know nothing about Alcatraz, it's pretty fun I guess.

Too bad you're not single though. The singles scene is completely different in SF (not what you're thinking lol). Because there's so many gay guys there, there's a lack of single guys, and girls are the ones that are on the hunt. Me and a buddy were just ordering drinks, and girls would get inbetween us and just stand there hoping we'd talk to them. I partied with a different random every night. Definately unexpected.

Oh ya, something every car guy should check out is the Blackhawk museum.

About an hours drive outside SF.

Okay I recommend a resto called Nopa it is very good with decent prices and great service. Especially good for later nights. (11pm kitchen is still open).

As for a neat place to go for drinks try, Bourbon and Branch is made to be like an old speakeasy from prohibition times. Drinks take awhile dont let it bug you,

If you're looking to chill... grab a bottle of wine and head down to Monteray or Santa Cruz and relax on the beach. (It'll be warmer than San Fran)

Didn't notice many in Monteray but Santa Cruz is full of homeless people too.

But the beaches are nice! If you're interested, I'll send you the link to the beach house we stayed at... it was 100 bucks for night and it's owned/operated by a hippie lady in her 50s... she was pretty cool.

    God damn that looks good.

I love San Francisco, I don't know why but it's one of my favorite places.

Maybe it's all the fags there, reminds me of Beyond!
