Gold chain appraisal?

i was given a 10kt gold chain, marina (i think) style links, now i'm looking to see what it's worth. where is a good place to get something like this appraised?

Unless it is an antique or really big and a really really heavy link what is the point? Its only 10K and a full written appraisal that a insurance company will accept for insurance purposes will cost you about $85.

i have no idea about jewelry hence why i asked lol. other than googling similar items i have no way of knowing what it was worth i was just wondering, if it's gonna cost me that much....well yea, kinda pointless then

Earlier this year I purchased a 14k gold chain from Peoples and that set me back only ~$75, so I expect 10K to be less than that if it gives you any indication.

if it is marina style, how thick are the links, they are quite pricey even in 10k around 250 to 800 depending on your link size, pawning, you will get 40 bucks

I would say your best bet then is to take it to a jewellery store in the mall and try to match it up to close as you can to what they are selling. Peoples and Mappins carry a a lot of 10K chains, should give you an idea.

I know one of the jewelry stores at market, across from Geox, sometimes has a guy come in and do appraisals.. They *might* be free, but he's usually booked days in advance. I can't remember which place it is, but they've been at market since day 1 (25+ years)

I've gone into a jewelery store and asked someone there and they usually give me a range where my chain falls.

Also 10K isn't necessarily cheap, I've been looking at chains during my christmas shopping, and a thick 10K marina style chain was worth about $1900, while the 14K version was only $200 more. It was in sunridge....can't remember which of the 10 jewelery stores it was though...

weigh it... multiply it by 10/24 to find out how much gold is in it... and calculate it using the market price of gold

at the jewelry store i work at, all the pricing on chains is done by weight.
