Default Anyone else get ripped off by Penthouse Furniture?

So last week my Mom bought a leather love seat from Penthouse Furniture for $599, regularly $1800. She also paid a $100 delivery fee. It was supposed to be delivered last Thurs. However the item never showed up. She tried to contact Penthouse Furniture but could never get anyone on the phone. We have since learned that they apparently went out of business and locked their doors. My mom contacted M/C and they are sending her out a form to fill out to return the payment. And then if Penthouse Furniture doesn't dispute the return, she will get her money back.

So was just wondering if anyone else here is in a similar situation and how they are proceeding to get their money back.

Wow, and I thought those Going Out of Business sale are just gimmicks.

But the whole furniture business was in decline every since last year. Not surprise at all. At least you got CC companies to cover your ass.

Seriously there should be no problem getting that back from MC. They are usually pretty good about that stuff.

Sucks to hear that happen though.

I phoned them with a dispute once whereby the price I was charged was not the price authorized and the guy refused to refund the charge. I took the merchandise anyways and when I phoned MC they said if I took the merchandise there is nothing they can do (it was cigars at the airport in Cuba).

You bought warranty on a couch? What are you worried about, the motherboard frying or dead pixels?

As stupid as it sounds my parents bought one too. They've used it three or four times for various things such as a cat claw rip, or a button falling off. They come out to your house and fix it up.

It's worth it if you have kids or pets or heavy set family members.

They will come out and fix ANYTHING wrong with it.

Crappy.. hopefully you get your money back. Looks like my warranty is toast as well but it was almost done anyways.

What is with the companies just shutting down with no warning anymore. They couldn't see it coming? No lets just one day chain up the stores and screw over your staff and customers. At least Linen and things was up front and just kept discounting to get rid of all inventory.

Actually Linens 'n Things went into receivership and the company that took over their inventory ran the closing out sales.

However there was a big controversy about the "sales" because the receiver actually increased the prices and then marked them down to the price that Linens 'n Things was originally selling the product for before they went out of business.

There was a piece about it on Global a week or two ago.

Well I dealt with Penthouse furniture last year when we built our new house. We purchased all new furniture from a bunch of shops (including $20,000 + from Penthouse).

They were terrible, I fought with them constantly after they got my $$$. They kept dropping off the wrong shit finally after a year I just kept the shit they left at my house - even though it still wasn't what I paid for. I still get flashbacks of Cassandra the Snagle Tooth sales Beast.

Driving down Blackfoot seeing the "going out of business" sign gave me a warm fuzzy feeling I have not felt in years. I am sure it wasn't Christmas Spirit, but the Karma Police. Normally I hate seeing businesses fail, but Penthouse had it coming and hopefully them going out of business will allow some of their other competition to do a little better.

Well, just a bit of info for you customers waiting for anything from them....

I know the owners personally, they are family friends and they owe us $2000 for a returned item that was returned 2 years ago. If WE can't get our cash from them after NUMEROUS attempts, stranger customer, good luck.

in*10*se, you've got to be kidding me, right?
