Default Has anyone replaced the power jack on a laptop source?

Wondering if anyone has experience replacing the power connector jack on a laptop power cable. I am talking the part that plugs into your laptop.

Where did you find the connector in town and what all did you have to do?

I've found this website which looks like a decent guide but any advice would be great.

You chop it off and solder/heatshrink on a new one? Just like the site shows. Or save yourself a hassle and buy a new adapter from eBay for $25. For connectors bring the old one with you and visit:

Thanks for the tips, i'll give them a call and also look on Ebay. Im more of a do it myself guy so i'll probably attempt the repair first and if butchered, buy one.

Cheers. That site looks ok but:

    1) radio shack sucks
    2) pick up some shrink tubing (small, for the individual leads, and large for the whole thing) as it's far sexier and more durable than ghetto-electrical-taping
    3) avoid chopping off the ferrite bead, if possible

Shrink tubing was definately the plan here. I'll give Mem Xpress a call too to see if they have the connector.

Well after a trip back and fourth to BE Electronics I found a plug and got it soldered on. Seemed like a cheap plug so I did a wrap of thin heat shrink on the neck and then put bigger shrink around the whole thing up to the plug- Durable as fuck. It feels weird not having to bend the cord back and fourth to find a good position to charge, I can go anywhere now!
