is it just me or does it seem like the city is using less gravel/salt on the roads? cause its so slippery. i`d rather drive on snow on top of ice than just ice.
maybe its the city's way of cutting costs

Actually, I've been fairly happy with the way they've been keeping up the roads. Guess we just drive on different routes?
well my main commute is deerfoot, so i dont really notice it. but i took smaller roads today like mcleod and anderson, and the roads were so ice, and on john laurie and shagganapi, there was ice on the ground right where the stop line for the intersection is heading west on john laurie. and it was uneven. couple cars couldnt even make it up the hill.. including a uhaul truck
Agreed, Seeing allot more snow plows around then last year.Originally posted by Kloubek

Sand won't stick to ice and salt is useless at these temperatures. So there's not much they can do until it warms up. Everyone would rather drive on top of snow as well, which is what happened. All the pressure from the cars has turned it into ice (like a glacier).
The city is damned if they do and damned if they don't when there's a large dump of snow followed by a deep freeze. At that point, all they can do is get as much as they can off the roads before it does turn to ice (and stop salting it so prevent it from thawing then turning into worse ice). In the meantime, they'll keep throwing down gravel, but until it warms up most of it will be thrown to the sides.

Things were okay in the South (where I live). However, I went up to Sandstone (NW) today and didn't notice any sort of sanding at all down some areas.
Drove thru Panorama from Beddington, the whole road was a bumpy skating rink! I had to steer for the curb to get at least 1 wheel on the snow to get traction more times than I care to count.

Even in my buddies pathfinder with winters on 4x4, Crowchild right after McMahon was a nightmare! We were driving 30km/h and had absolutely no traction!
But, I will give the city some credit, I have seen tons of plow trucks out doing the best they can. It's just too damn cold!

Yeah I just came back from Crowchild Southbound. It's a shit show between 24th avenue until Kensington. I feel sorry for people driving on that road to work tomorrow.
God the commute tomorrow will be a joke....
I've seen a couple scrappers here in Coventry area
Everyone around here is just driving on the snow like usual ..

I havent had any issues driving at all. And I thought there have been more plows/sand trucks than previous years.
