    This is partially true. If you put a DX lens on an FX sensor, it will work, but you get mad vignetting. If you've upgraded to an FX body, it kind of makes all your DX lenses superfluous.

    Hmmm.... the way I cycle through tech maybe I should buy FX lenses (including the older stuff which seems to be made better) and just compensate for the crop factor (like my new 50mm which is more like a 70mm on a DX).

    I'll probably have a d700 by summer so buying DX lenses is a waste. Thanks.

    I think buying a D700 is a waste unless you make a living with your photography works =P...I'd love to own a D300 tho, I think I will stay on DX side until photography becomes somthing more than just a hobby to me =)

    Best part of D700 ..

    --> 14-24!!

    Anyway, if you are buying 18-200 ...

    I may suggest u to get 18-55 (VR or not, no big deal) + 55-200VR.

    Much, Cheaper, and same or better PQ.
    The Original !

    Yeah, I have to agree with sml.

    Right now I am just using a 50mm (I expect my d60 will sell with the kit lens).

    I'd like the 50mm for indoor family stuff, the 18-200mm for waling around, and maybe a good tele for nature.

    the 18-200 vr is definitely worth partially of the money.. great all in one, use everywhere lens.. but the creep bothers me..and depending if yuo're picky about quality, all purpose lenses are generally not as sharp and the corners tend to distort more.

    just my two cents when i had the 18-200. I highly recommend the nikkor 50mm lens for nature shots and the nikkor 18-70 for scenary (building, downtown, etc..) shots, the corners are sharper and less distorted.

    If you put a DX lens on either the D700 or D3, it automatically crops the sensor and you do not get vignetting, however it cuts you down to 6MP.

    There are some DX lenses, the 17-55 f2.8 for example, that work on FX without crop-mode with no vingetting through certain ranges. Obviously that isn't ideal, though.
