I wrote the NPPE exam in June, and passed... but I do have a few comments for people going to take the latest exams going forward.
The exam has somewhat recently changed to a digital format and has more modern questions not mentioned anywhere in the older study materials you may find floating around. Some of the old stuff is still good, but it will make your life easier to have the newer study materials. At least, one of the guys I talked to after said it followed the new materials pretty closely.
I did it the cheaper/more challenging way of just borrowing the law book to read, and downloaded all of the latest free codes/guides/etc. that are available (and then read through the documents referenced within those documents)... and I didn't get a sense that it followed them closely so much as it challenged you to decipher the info within.
One other thing that I did was pay the $50-$100 to take the practice exam online through their 3rd party. I was glad I did as I found that of the few example questions in older guides that I had were answered/recorded incorrectly by some unknown engineer. Besides not having to worry about someone elses wrong answers, it's pretty cheap and gets you used to how you have to write the new exam.
