Default low hanging telus cable in my yard

On a property I recently bought, theres a low hanging cable thats comes from the telephone pole into the yard and then the house. (im assuming its telus... its not the shaw line cuz i had the shaw guy here already and it doesnt look like the power line.)

Will Telus fix it at no charge even thought its on my property?

(Im not a Telus customer at all.)

So you're not a Telus customer and they have a cable dangling in your back yard?

It should be on their dime to fix it. Tell them if they don't you're going to cut it and then hook your car battery up to it and fuck up the entire neighborhood's reception.

Telus should tighten it up free of charge. It's outside your demarc point so their problem, however that is assuming they ever bother to show up. You could just chop it down, but keep in mind if it's live there's 48Vdc across those wires, with a ringing voltage of 90Vac... basically what I'm saying is that leaving it in the alley for kids to lick isn't a good idea.

You sure it's Telus? Look at the strands, lowest is Shaw, next is telco, then a nice big gap and power on top.

Unless, of course, you're videotaping them to win money on a game show.

you sure its a telus wire?

older neighbourhoods have their power come in overhead

would suck to hear you killed yourself cutting a "telus" wire

or call enmax and tell them there is a low hanging wire over your yard and you think it's a power wire.

    yeah im pretty sure.

i know which one is shaw because the shaw guy has been here many times working on the connection outside.

and what i assume to be the power lines are the beefiest of the bunch and run higher up.

this is a single black cable that is in the middle of the three (as aposter above described).

Ill call telus at some point. I just dont want to be charged for it and it runs through some shrubs and i dont want to cut the trees. If it was put up properly, it should run at least a couple of feet above the top of the shrubs. This cold weather has caused it sag about another foot lower.

    nothing new.

cold weather causes wires to CONTRACT, warm weather causes the wires to EXPAND.

If it is in your bushes now, it will be even further into them when the weather heats up.

It's kind of a grey area. Telus's obligation to you ends at your property line. Understandable since drop services are customer supplied or paid for by the developer at the time your house was built. But from what i understand once the service is installed and paid for any upcoming maintnence, upgrades & repairs are that utility's company dollar.

    Worth giving them a call.

Also in their telephone stands stuff it says "DO NOT CUT TELUS ENTRANCE DROP WIRE"

Had this happen on my property in BC. Called them up and they said they would swing by in the next month or two and snug it up. Less than 48 hours later they had tightened the line and everything was good again. I have never had a telus phone line, so you don't need to be a customer for them to do this.

They leave some slack on the pole when they run your line. For various reasons it can come loose at the pole and all this slack will now be in your line and it will hang very low. Unless it is ripping off the side of your house and that is what is making it sag, this is their problem since the problem is on the pole.

Funny you mention this about the heights, because when I lived in Vernon I had shaw come out to connect my internet, and while the guy was out I asked him to raise the shaw line (Since it was sagging bad, so was the telus one) and he said (paraphrased) "well I shouldn't because I will get in BIG trouble for making it higher than your phone, but something is OBVIOUSLY wrong with your phone line"

If it is a Telus line it will be a single run of wire, if it is the power running to your house there will be 3 secondary wires(2 black 1 alum)
is your meter inside or out?

IF it is a telus wire.... It IS Telus' responsibility. Anything up to the demarcation point (grey box) on your house is their responsibility.

But IIRC there's so little current running through that it wouldn't really do anything but 'taste like pain'. right?
