depends on inputs on your tv.
- vga to vga
- dvi to hdmi
- svideo to svideo

also depends on what output you have in your laptop as well.
mine has an HDMI output so i could do hdmi-hdmi.

i just ran into this problem with an older notebook that only has VGA out
one thing i found out during my search was that VGA was never designed to be used with RCA, s-video, DVI, HDMI, or any other TV input
so dont expect much in terms of image clarity
dont buy a VGA - s-video cable as it will not work
