It has really been popping my mind man, life is so much cheaper out there, you can rent for 400/m it would be a fun to try out I think

Keep in mind that your poker winnings count as income there (online included), so you're gonna need a work visa if you plan on playing for a living.

Who said anything about disclosing poker winnings? Say I go down with 20,000 for 6 months, and I do not withdrawl any funds from my poker account what is there to pay taxes on?

I think it is possible, I have been living off online poker for the last 4 months here in Calgary now, and haven't had issues. I do not see why I wouldn't be able to do it in the states with cheaper rent...

21 Living on my own and going to school part time and doing financially well, I think it is possible?

Worst comes to worse I lose a few grand, and move back to Canada early..

There's no way for you to stay here without a student visa or work visa. They are on that stuff like crazy now due to lack of jobs and high competition for anything available. Plus how would you sign a lease without having a visa here?

$400 is a dream number too. With people losing their houses, renting has gone up.

Maybe not without a student work work visa that was always my guess as well.

But I was just in Vegas less then a week ago, and i saw a bunch of places for rent for 350 - 450, and a couple of the cab drivers I also talked to said they rented for that price/month so I think it is possible.. Even if rent was 700/m I would like to be able to try this out if there was a way of me being able to stay for 5-6 months without a work/ student visa...

Also, if you're playing at Casinos, they keep track of you and automatically deduct your "earnings" of taxes owed. But that's for bigger winners, not sure how much you rake in playing poker.

In Canada you will only get taxes on poker if it is your primary source of income, if it is a side of income they will not tax you...

I am aware of the issues winnings in poker, in Vegas they give out player cards, and they are good at most casinos, and I'm sure that is used for some sort of tax purpose...

In the US any type of lottery( or poker) winning is taxable. Even if you win a car you have to pay the taxes before you collect your new car. The casino's will deduct your taxes from your winnings. If you stay less than 6 months you may be able to come back to Canada and then reclaim the tax money you have paid while you were there. I saw a commercial the other day for Canadians who have paid taxes on winnings in the US, basically said you can collect them after you come back to Canada.

Online gambling for real money is banned in the states... though there are a few loopholes, it's generally banned.
