Holy crap! What the hell happened!?? At least it looks like the plane is intact, so hopefully nobody was seriously injured. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

A US Airways plane crashed into the frigid Hudson River on Thursday afternoon after striking a bird that disabled two engines
It says a bird - singular. One bird took out 2 engines??

Wow thank goodness, now I can sleep at night knowing that terrorists ( ) won't blow up the plane the next time I fly.

On a more serious note, the last time I flew US Airways was about 3 weeks ago (San Francisco to Calgary) -- there were no life vests under the seats as you were supposed to use your seat cushon for flotation (you know...save money on fuel costs by reducing the total weight of the aircraft by 40-50 pounds) At least in this case (when they were actually needed) the passengers look to have vests on in the photograph.

Bird strikes, we can send people to the fucking moon, but we can't stop a small bird from killing a huge turbine.

    Hmm.

Watching it on Bloomberg. Reporter says it appears to be a successful emergency exit and everyone got off...

FAA says everyone made it out, I'm curious how many injuries there were... US Airways legal department is probably getting ready for a big lawsuit.

Yeah there was a ruling a while back that said if the plane doesnt go near water then there is no need for life vests.... makes sense... thats like putting a parachute in your car...

Original article must've been edited, because I can't see anywhere that it says "one bird".

Doug Church, spokesman for the National Air Traffic Controllers Union, said that the pilot reported a "double bird strike" about 30 to 45 seconds after takeoff and said he needed to return to LaGuardia.

I'm surprised it was LaGuardia and not JFK.

Isn't JFK right next to a bird sanctuary?

Also, don't engine manufacturers hurl chickens at their turbines to test for this kind of thing?
    In reference to Rob Anders:

bahahaha that would be hilarious - however you can't even beat chickens (KFC incident) so launching them at turbines wouldnt fly with the activists.
