    Default Thought's on E46 328CI

I might look into trading my vehicle for a 2000 BMW 328CI. My only concern is the km's. It has rolled 200,000k. In your opinion what are some concerns you guys have had with this motor especially with that many km's. I do know that it all depends on how it was maintained, but just looking for generalizations here. It a manual transmission. Also, does the 193hp seem like a slouch?

    Thanks in advance

km wise, that engine is great. You shouldn't worry about it. Things to look for:
    - rear subframe issues
    - the whole suspension will be going immediately if it hasn't been already re-done at 160
    - Clutch often goes around 180-220 mark, so be prepared for a new clutch
    - Just follow my test drive / examining a car thread

Expect minor electrical gremlins. The 99-01 E46's were NOT reliable, after 02, they started to improve.

Check to see the rear subframe.

    Tranny Oil change done?
Any parts been replaced, cause 200k km is usually failure time.
When you have a thought... let it go.. just let it go and you move ahead of everyone else

depends on how it was driven of course, but when i was looking for one, some of them didn't have a new clutch even with 185 on the clock.
the whole suspension will probably be going if it hasn't been replaced.

Ok good to know! Unless there is a pile of replacement/service receipts, i am not going to bother!

The entire cooling system is weak on our cars.

    Water pump, t-stat, hoses, etc.

Honestly I wouldn't buy a car with that many K again.

Around 240 I started getting the most problems.

Get something around 80k, and get an 04+ with the facelift!

Take it for what it's worth but my 2000 E46 is close to 230km's now. Only problems I've had since new were the accessory drive belt, and fuel pump. Both replaced for about $1000.

My car still drives like new, although I'm bracing for something to go wrong.

With that said, i've been proactive with preventative maint with synthetic oil changes now every 8000 kms or so.

I would be wary of buying a car with that many kms unless you're sure of it's service history.

Trust me dude, give it 10k more. At 240 my car became unreliable and stupid things were going.

I'm at 295,000km now on my green beast and it's a nightmare. My power steering pump is on the way out now too.
