Just wondering about these SLK's...
1. How exactly does the convertible hard top gets store??? Anyone got close-up pix of the procedure?
2. What's the diff between the SLK 230 COMPRESSOR and the SLK 320? All I know is the COMPRESSOR has an SC.

The Convertable folds up under the trunk lid. The trunk opens up in the oposite direction (away from the rear window, and the top goes underneith.
The Compressor is a Supercharged motor.
The 230 has a Supercharged 192hp 2.3L 4 cyl, and the 320 is a 215hp 3.2L 6 cyl.Same motor that is in the SLK32 AMG, but without the SC...

Pretty much what Benny says, the 230 is a s/c'd 4 banger, 320 is an NA 3.2L V6, and the 32AMG is a s/c'd 3.2l V6 with a built motor running 14.6psi of boost. I think another difference with the 32 engine is the twin spark plugs per cylinder (not sure if its twin on the 320 engine).
The older 230 engines had a s/c clutch that disengaged the charger when not under load (~2500 rpm i think) but the clutch was removed on the newer 230s and the charger now runs all the time regardless of load.
As for the top, it folds into the top half of the trunk (trunk lid swings open the opposite way to allow the top to go in).
Here are a few photos of the top in various positions when being retracted.
And here is a close up of the top stored inside the trunk:

Hehehehe, scroll the page really fast to see it retract, its like a picture book...

haha...No. I just think Honda should have tried to make a hard top convertible on my car, but then again, the msrp of it would have increase...Originally posted by sexualbanana

So when you open the trunk, the top sits just directly beneath the trunk? I assumed there is a bit less space in the trunk when the top is down?
Yes with the top down you do get quite a decrease in the trunk capacity. But surprisingly you can still fit 20 lbs of beef jerky and luggage among other things in there with top down

Correct. The space gets roughly 1/2'd when the top is down. On the new SL, a button lifts the assembly that's in the trunk so you can put stuff underneath, no loss of cargo space.Originally posted by Seks

does the car have to be in park to put the top down?
i know it would be stupid to do it at like highway speeds, but it would look pretty cool if you could do it while driving, you know pulling out of a parking lot or some shit. sure to attract some attn...

Since the C230 sport coupe no longer gets the supercharged 2.3 for 2003 (dropped for a new 1.8), does the SLK230 get the new motor as well for 2003?
I think you can retract it at up to 5km/hOriginally posted by dj_honda

The process doesn't start until you come to a complete stop. Once it starts, you can travel up to 10km/h. If you exceed that, it beeps at you like crazy, and you have to come to a complete stop once again before the process continues. There's a $1500US mod that allows you to operate it up to 40km/h, and you don't have to stop to initiate the process either.
