I completely see where EK 2.0 is coming from and agree wholeheartedly that, especially in the US, there is an unfair and inaccurate image of muslims.

However, I think the point of this article is being missed to some degree. This article isn't saying "Look, another crazy muslim at it again". I posted it because of the terrible irony of it all.

This man founded the first english-language cable channel targeting muslims in the US. It could have been a fantastic resource to educate the ignorant on what muslims stand for. To show non-muslims that muslims aren't all extremists who are suicide bombers. The goal of the station was to counter these stereotypes.

So what does he do? He beheads the woman who is divorcing him.

Referring to the comments about how if this was a white catholic guy, no one would be calling out his religion. But that's not the appropriate analogy. It's more like Sarah Palin saying it is morally wrong to have sex outside of marriage, then have her teenage daughter become pregnant. You betcha people called her out on her religious beliefs.

Or Rev. Ted Haggard condemning homosexuals, then confesses to having sex with a man. You don't think critics brought up his religion? Of course they did, because that's what makes it so contradictory!

I'm all about being open-minded and not labelling people by their religions, but when this guy's job was to dispel these stereotypes, then beheads his wife, that's where the story lies, no?

I find that particularly aggravating about the US system. If I'm not mistaken, police here are able to charge and detain one or both for disturbing the peace or assault if they've both participated in the physical altercation.
